The Village of Wainwright is excited to announce that it has been awarded its first Indian Environmental General Assistance Program (IGAP) grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The EPA IGAP is focused on capacity-building and is intended to help the Tribe plan, develop, and establish its own environmental protection programs in accordance with federal laws and EPA guidelines.
IGAP funds have recently supported the creation of a new Environmental Coordinator position here at the Tribal office. In the upcoming year, the Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the development of a joint EPA-Tribal Environmental Plan (ETEP).
The ETEP will identify local environmental priorities and outline the mutual roles and responsibilities for each entity (EPA and Tribal). This information will be used to guide the Tribe’s future environmental planning and actions.
