In 2013, the Village of Wainwright was successful in obtaining a 3 year grant from the Administration for Native Americans (ANA) for the “Atauchikun: Embracing Change” project.
The goal of the project was to ensure that the Iñupiat people of Wainwright utilize our traditional knowledge to protect and preserve our culture, subsistence activities, and economy from the impact of local oil industry development.
The grant was successfully closed out in late 2016. It was funded through an ANA Social & Economic Development Strategies grant to the Village of Wainwright, Award No. 90NA8246-01-00, and was directed by Alaska Project Solutions, Inc.
The grant supported creation of the Wainwright Community Guide and the Visitor Agreements.
